The Church of Sweden is looking to recruit a Psychosocial Specialist for supported emergency operations in South Sudan. The position will be managed and supported by the International Department at the Church of Sweden but will operate through its implementing partner, Lutheran World Federation (LWF).
Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is an international NGO working in the humanitarian field in emergencies across the globe. It has been active in emergency relief operations in Sudan since the mid 1970s and has its country office in Juba. In September 2012, it commenced an emergency response in Upper Nile State, South Sudan. The required Psychosocial Specialist will largely work on the recently established protection and assistance program for refugees in Batil and Gindrassa Refugee Camps there, namely within the sectors of Education and Child Protection. The remainder of time will be related to the ongoing programs in Jonglei State.
The position will be for 6 months, commencing in February 2013, funds permitting.
Key responsibilities
Manage, develop and oversee the psychosocial components of the program, including technical, and human resources along with the Child Protection and Education Specialists.
Implement the program in line with the activity plan and the available budget.
Assess and increase the capacity of the project staff, teachers and school committees through coaching and Community Based Psychosocial Support (CBPS) training.
Attend meetings of the relevant networks and working groups and coordinate activities with other key implementing partners (Intersos, Save the Children and UNHCR).
Develop and maintain sound partner relationships with different project stakeholders.
Support, mentor and guide staff on CBPS mainstreaming in Jonglei programme.
Prepare the necessary documentation and reporting as required.
Provide input and guidance in CBPS mainstreaming at an organizational level, including staff care components and CBPS sensitive appeal writing.
Perform any other duty in line with the overall function requirements requested by the Maban Team Leader and in collaboration with technical specialists at Church of Sweden.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor degree in Psychology, Social Work, or relevant fields.
Substantial relevant experience in the psychosocial sector including experience in a supervisory role (staff care experience desirable).
Previous field experience in humanitarian work, emergency responses and refugee camps.
Demonstrated experience in project development and management: planning, monitoring and evaluation.
Fluent English, written and oral.
Very good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate leadership skills, initiative, and a sincere commitment to team work.
Understand and appreciate the Community Based Approach in humanitarian work and emergency response.
Candidate must be prepared to live and operate in harsh and insecure environments; previous experience in such conditions is desirable.
Experience in child protection and education programming desirable.
Knowledge and experience in South Sudan and working with UNCHR an asset.
Contract: Six months
