Area Programme Coordinator

South Sudan

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic international, non-governmental organization which works to reduce violence and protect civilians in situations of violent conflict and its aftermath, mostly through the deployment on the ground of multinational teams of civilians.

South Sudan is reaching the 6-month anniversary of the start of the civil war that has forced 1.3 million people to flee their homes. The people of South Sudan are experiencing a massive protection crisis that is turning into a humanitarian emergency. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, livelihoods, families and access to basic services like food, medical care and education.

NP is continuing to scale up to meet the growing needs. In South Sudan, NP has a mobile protection response team and 12 field teams providing emergency protection programme for communities affected by violent conflict. Programming is founded on unarmed civilian protection and is thematically focused on protection in displacement, child protection, gender based violence protection and inter-communal violence reduction.

We are looking for a dynamic and energetic Area Programme Coordinator to oversee the programme implementation and operations in specific geographic Areas of Response (AoR). You are a hands on coordinator who will be field based and will travel between the field teams within your AoR. Your role is to support the teams through a collaborative management style, to ensure that programme implementation is of the highest standard, to spearhead project cycle management for your AoR and to be an interlocutor between the teams and Juba HQ to ensure logistics, operations and procurement are in place to facilitate the functioning of the team. You will be ready to represent Nonviolent Peaceforce in a variety of fora including coordination bodies, with donors, authorities and other agencies. You need a good blend of administrative, organizational and people skills.

You will be someone who draws motivation from a genuine commitment to civilian protection and violence reduction programming. You are ready to live and work in highly challenging environment where the context is constantly changing and there are frequent periods of insecurity. You are a highly creative problem solver, who will tenaciously find solutions. You are able to build positive relationships with a wide range of actors; you motivate, inspire and nurture the development of your teams. You are someone who takes pride in your work and being part of something bigger than yourself. The Nonviolent Peaceforce programme in South Sudan is young and growing – you are someone who wants to contribute to building something.
