GURTONG TRUST- PEACE AND MEDIA PROJECT
Gurtong is an independent, not-for-profit, community-based project, which aims at removing all ethnic, political or personal obstacles on the way to unity, peace and mutual respect among South Sudanese. Our project is working towards promotion of peace and provision of information that aims at promoting peace by influencing the change in perceptions, attitudes and habits of the South Sudanese on various issues related to cultural diversity, ethnicity, governance and peaceful co-existence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Video Producer will be responsible for facilitating a project from beginning to end. He /She will be involved in every stage of the video, overseeing the project from start to finish, both in the studio and on location. Specifically he/she will be expected to:
- Read, research and assess ideas and objectives of the video documentaries and finished scripts Organise shooting schedules – by liaising with the production team, intended interviewees, communities and other stakeholders
- Develop the shooting scripts and after the entire field work production write the editing script for the final product
- Ensure proper and prompt logging and labelling and filing of the raw video footage after every field work
- Supervise the progress of the project from production to post production
- Offer vision and strategy on how to most effectively package our media content to our target audience
- Maintain contemporary technical skills for editing and final production.
- Stay up to date with relevant copyright procedures and ensure Gurtong’s footage conforms to copyright requirements. Protect Gurtong’s copyright and ensure external users do not abuse any Gurtong’s video material. Ensure Gurtong has copyright clearance to use any external elements (such as music) in video products.
- Train colleagues and other concerned Gurtong staff on copyright procedures and laws for Gurtong video and image products, and monitor their proper implementation of these.
- Provide the final product in different format such as DV tapes, DVD format or any other format which may be required
- Ensure smooth and high-quality video production;
- Ensure that Gurtong’s production equipment is properly managed
- Any other related tasks as may be assigned from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Academic Qualification and Skills
Four-year college degree in relevant subject areas (Advanced Degree preferred)
Sound technical and productions skills including camera operation, non-linear editing and script-writing Well versed in broadcast equipment including video cameras, audio gear and lighting Knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite required. WordPress an advantage. Sound editorial judgment Excellent interpersonal, communication, research and presentation skills as well as strong writing skills. Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and to meet tight deadlines, including a flexible mindset regarding working hours Commitment to, and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team - Team player, adaptable, and self-motivated. Excellent written and reading English skills Advanced Computer skills Willingness to learn new skills, technologies and information as organizational objectives require Ability to work unsupervised, in a rapidly changing environment Ability to operate and lead under pressure and in physically or mentally challenging situations Commitment to the mission, principles and values of Gurtong
Experience: Five-years experience working in video production with a track record of successfully producing short segments. Experience with editing short segments for broadcast and/or educational distribution Experience commissioning and managing videographers; Experience mentoring youth in video and/or arts programs is a distinct advantage
Language and Communication: • Required: Fluency in English (both written and spoken) • Knowledge of Arabic and other local languages is an added advantage
