****Duties and Responsibilities****
LWF South Sudan implements Food Security and Livelihoods in Twic East and Duk Counties of Jonglei State. Under the guidance of the Team leader , The Food Security Project Officer will be responsible for overall implementation of the project in liaison with the county Agriculture departments and ensuring as much as possible that the beneficiary communities are fully involved in the decision making processes of the Food security activities in Twic East and Duk Counties
****KEY RESPONSIBILITIES****
- Oversee planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of LWF Jonglei Development project Food Security components
- Ensure that all work is carried out in a way that is sensitive to community needs and gender issues. In particular, promote the full and equal participation of the community including women in all aspects of the work and ensure that the project provides for peace making and not community division.
- Manage the project budget on Food Security in close collaboration with the Development Manager.
- Coordinate the Food Security component of the project in close collaboration with Local County Agriculture departments of Twic East and Duk and other stakeholders in the project area
- Represent LWF in Food Security and livelihoods related coordination forums at State and County level and contribute to making any joint FS strategies within inter-agency forums.
- Assess humanitarian needs and local capacities, especially in relation to the food security and livelihoods of conflict affected population.
- Responsible for the preparations of monthly progress and quarterly narrative reports in close communication with project Assistants, ensuring that the standards and deadlines are met.
- Work closely with the Procurement and Logistics office to ascertain timely and efficient delivery of Food Security project supplies, ensuring that donor guidelines are strictly followed.
- Through consultation with the community and Agriculture department, recommend the best seeds suitable for the soil in the project area.
- Train farmers and County Agricultural Officers on modern methods of cultivation, planting, harvesting and effects of various climatic conditions on crops.
- Assist the Development Manager in the preparation of food security project proposals and initiating new ideas on Food security and livelihoods
Minimum Qualifications and Personal Specification:
- Degree / Diploma in Agriculture / Rural Development or similar
- At least 2 years of hand on experience implementing similar project in South Sudan.
- Knowledge / understanding of RBA/ Gender in programming.
- Fluency of Arabic language would be an added advantage
- A commitment to improvement of lives of the poor through capacity building/ training
- Consultative, diplomatic, flexible and able to motivate and lead a team
- Willingness to work and stay in remote area and adopt to challenging condition
