Position:Child Protection Coordinator

Duration of Contract: 1 year
Job purpose:
The LWF/DWS Child protection Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the LWF/DWS Child protection component of the emergency program in Unity, South Sudan. He/she shall be based in Ajuong Thok Refugee Camp in Unity State and will be responsible to the LWF/DWS Country Representative, who delegates this responsibility to the Team Leader. The Child protection Coordinator shall have the following roles and duties:
1. Qualifications and experience:
- Master or Bachelor degree in Social Work, Human Rights or relevant field
- Minimum five years of experience working in an emergency response context or in fragile states
- Proven experience in Child Protection especially in a refugee context
- Ability to identify the main gaps in child protection in the given context to inform a holistic response for children.
- Previous experience of managing a team and project management
- Experience and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
- Experience in monitoring and evaluating child protection programmes in emergency, transition and recovery contexts
- Ability to work both in an advisory and a hands on implementation capacity
- Experience in capacity building and in strengthening various duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection.
- Excellent communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic will be an added advantage.
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
for the post of CHILD PROTECTION COORDINATOR
AJUONG THOK, UNTIY STATE, SOUTH SUDAN
of the Lutheran World Federation, Department for World Service
(LWF/DWS) Program in South Sudan
The LWF/DWS Child protection Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the LWF/DWS Child protection component of the emergency program in Unity, South Sudan. He/she shall be based in Ajuong Thok Refugee Camp in Unity State and will be responsible to the LWF/DWS Country Representative, who delegates this responsibility to the Team Leader. The Child protection Coordinator shall have the following roles and duties:
1. On Leadership:
a) provides leadership to the LWF/DWS Child protection Program in Unity and works closely with the country management team to ensure mutual accountability;
b) promotes, implements and upholds the vision, mission, core values and relevant objectives of the Global LWF/DWS strategy, as well as the ACT (Action by Churches Together) project documents for the country;
c) facilitates and actively seeks to sharpen the profile of LWF/DWS as an international humanitarian organization through continuously striving to improve the quality of the program according to LWF/DWS’ Child Protection Policy (Revised 2014) as well as the LWF empowerment, rights-based and integrated approaches;
2. On Program Management:
a) together with the emergency team leader, he/she is responsible for the planning, supervision, implementation, monitoring, documentation and administration of the LWF/DWS child protection emergency program in accordance with LWF/DWS policies, priorities, procedures and guidelines;
b) oversees implementation of planned child protection activities; child friendly spaces (CFS), case management team, child protection committees, child rights clubs.
c) ensures management systems in the program are strengthened for the smooth implementation of LWF programmatic work and the facilitation of learning and capacity building in the program;
d) undertakes regular monitoring of program/project and sets up monitoring systems for the child protection sector;
e) submits good quality concept notes and proposals for child protection programs;
f) ensures the timely, accurate and relevant reports are submitted according to grant agreements;
g) submits monthly and quarterly reports to the Juba office for internal monitoring purposes;
h) arranges for procurement of supplies needed for child protection activities
i) ensures all emergency response and humanitarian interventions are undertaken in accordance with the LWF policies, guidelines and procedures, with specific reference to the Code of Conduct, rights based approach (RBA) and the HAP and Sphere Project minimum standards;
j) ensures that the different program approaches stated in the LWF/DWS County Strategy are incorporated into the projects, programs and policies of the Program;
k) Experience in implementing projects funded by UNHCR, ECHO, BPRM and SIDA
l) plans, implements and monitors environmentally sound projects in accordance with LWF’s Guiding Principles for Sustainable Development, other relevant LWF/DWS polices and guidelines and internationally agreed standards;
m) mainstreams gender and implements gender sensitivity in the Program;
n) promotes accountability, especially to the disaster affected population, in all LWF/DWS emergency responses.
3. Human Resources:
o) responsible for recruitment of Child protection staff including both national and incentive
p) acts as the direct supervisor of the Child protection staff
q) ensures that new child protection staff are provided with thorough orientation to the LWF’s priorities and guiding principles as a humanitarian organization, the LWF/DWS field program and the project to which they are assigned;
r) reviews training needs of staff and others involved in child protection. Works with child protection staff to design training content. Ensures appropriate training occurs.
4. On Relations:
a) maintains a close relationship with local government authorities with regards to operations, planning, implementation and cross sharing;
b) represents LWF at inter agency meetings on child protection and any bilateral meetings with other child protection agencies fostering good working relationships with these organizations by sharing learning and working closely on activities;
c) fosters and maintains good coordination and collaboration with international and bilateral funding partners, particularly the UN, governments and their agencies, and other international and national NGOs.
