PROGRAMME BACKGROUND International Medical Corps began working in South Sudan in 1994, more than ten years before the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Following International Medical Corps’ worldwide operational framework, International Medical Corps-South Sudan’s vision is to build the health care capacity of the Government of South Sudan’s Ministry of Health, by engaging in service delivery, health policy and reform. Currently the International Medical Corps is implementing approximately 18 programs across eight sites in South Sudan – focused on primary health care, secondary health care, emergency medicine, maternal/child health, HIV/AIDS, WASH, nutrition and health systems strengthening. International Medical Corps currently supports approximately 50 health facilities in South Sudan, including two hospitals.

JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Field Site Manager, and with technical support from the Country Medical Director, the Obstetrician/Gynaecology Specialist primary responsibility is to provide specialized Clinical care to patients in Raja Hospital in Western Bal El Ghazal State in South Sudan. He/She will also contribute in technical design, implementation and ensure technical quality of Maternal health care in Raja Hospital. He/she will work in collaboration with Country Medical Director, and other senior management team and health teams in the field to ensure high-quality maternal health services to the beneficiaries of Raja Hospital in South Sudan. S/he will monitor service quality, ensure that all staff are trained and supported, manage pharmaceutical and other medical supply-chains, and apply clinical-level data to national-level quality improvement efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide clinical services including surgery on a daily basis to women with gynaecological and Obstetric problems admitted to Raja Hospital; • Conduct daily ward rounds with Raja hospital staff (Doctors, midwives, nurses and Clinical Officers/Medical Assistants) and use the opportunity to train them and mentor them on various procedures • Supervise national medical staffs an ensure high standard of care is upheld at Raja Hospital • Train medical staff (certified midwives, Nurses and Clinical Officers/Medical Assistants) in common obstetrical and gynecological procedures including assisted vacuum deliveries and dilatation and curettage; • Train MOH Medical Doctors/physicians in medical and surgical management of obstetric and gynecological conditions. • Train, mentor and coach the hospital matron regarding quality of care improvement processes including universal precaution and infection prevention and ensure that nursing care provided is of acceptable standards. • Supervise and maintain the supply chain for the required equipment, drugs, medical supplies for the hospital; • Organize, participate and summarize with the national medical doctors monthly mortality summary meetings • Participate in the development and adoption of standardized EmONC tools and protocols • Oversee the provision of other reproductive health services such as Family Planning, Syndromic management of STIs, and provision of signal functions of Comprehensive EmONC services • Produce monthly and quarterly reports to be submitted to the International Medical Corps country medical Director in Juba.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO MEETS THE FOLLOWING REQUIRMENTS: Essential requirements (only those who meet essential requirements are encouraged to apply) • Medical Doctor (MD, MBChB, MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized University • Specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology • Relevant clinical experience in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology preferably in developing countries • Excellent English language proficiency

Desirable requirements • Experience in managing Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health programs is preferable • Experience in pharmaceutical supply chain management, data and quality improvement processes and management • Project management skills and experience, including project cycle management, logical framework, monitoring, budget and finance management, proposal and report writing is preferable • Experience in working in remote areas with difficult operating environments preferable • Good communication skills including the ability to effectively motivate staff and to diplomatically manage the relationship with other national staff, local partners, and different authorities would be an asset • Arabic language skills an added advantage
