Purpose of the post
Under the supervision of the Emergency Specialist in Juba Country Office, the incumbent will be responsible to plan and manage the logistics function in UNICEF Rapid Response Missions (RRM) in conflict zones.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Juba Country Office
- Communicate with Emergency section and Logistics unit in Juba Country Office to plan quantities and type of supplies to be delivered to RRM locations and mode of transport for delivery of supplies.
- Participate in all meetings with Emergency section regarding future RRM planning and debriefing of previous missions.
- Ensure that accurate Release Orders are submitted to Logistics units in UNICEF Juba.
- Develop a mission specific critical path for the delivery of supplies by prioritizing which supplies should be delivered and in what order to maximise the operational effectiveness of the team.
- Assist Team Leader with compiling final report on return from RRM location, including list of supplies dispatched.
RRM Locations
- Communicate with local government officials and opposition forces regarding the delivery, storage and distribution of inbound supplies.
- Liaise with local government officials / opposition forces / UN agencies / NGO agencies and other actors to ensure road transport is available to deliver supplies from aircraft to distribution locations.
- Organise sufficient casual staff to unload supplies from aircraft, load on to vehicles and unload at distribution locations.
- Identify facilities for the storage of supplies prior to distribution if required.
- Communicate with Juba Logistics unit for delivery date of supplies.
- Communicate to UNHAS in Juba of a) the status of airstrip in RRM location and b) provide accurate weather report prior to aircraft leaving Juba.
- Manage the unloading of supplies from aircraft, ensuring type and quantities of supplies dispatched are correct as per Service Request Forms and aircraft cargo manifest
- Maintains monitoring sheet for supplies handed over to counterparts.
- Manage the distribution of supplies to counterparts.
- Assist Team Leader as requested
Minimum qualifications & experience required.**Education**
Advanced university degree from a recognized academic institution in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Management, International Economics, Engineering, International Development, Contract/Commercial Law, or areas directly related to logistics operations or UNICEF programme areas or First University degree combined with demonstrated professional work experience and understanding of relevant functions may be considered in lieu of advanced university degree, preferably combined with credited courses or certifications/diplomas from relevant professional bodies in supply chain management, procurement, contracting, construction project/program management or logistics or Relevant work experience will be considered if applicant does not have required University degree.**Work Experience:**Minimum 5 years of logistics work experience in humanitarian emergencies or experience of working in remote locations in conflict zones.

Language Proficiency:** Fluency in English.
