Chemonics seeks a team leader for South Sudan for USAID's anticipated Sustainable Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Project. This five-year, $40-45 million project will focus on strengthening the ability of urban water and sanitation service providers to expand, improve, and sustain equitable services via enhanced governance and financial viability. Its goal is to increase access to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene services in targeted urban areas on a sustainable basis. This position will be based in Juba, South Sudan. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. This position is contingent on USAID's award of the project to Chemonics.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage and implement Component 1 of the project, which involves expanding, improving, and sustaining urban sanitation and water supply services in South Sudan
- Develop and oversee knowledge management for key activities
- Lead a team of national staff and short-term technical consultants
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in urban planning, civil engineering, or a relevant social science or water and sanitation related field
- At least six years of experience with donor-funded programs related to improved provision and governance of water and sanitation services, with experience in sub-Saharan Africa preferred
- Demonstrated track record of providing technical assistance on municipal service programs, including sector financial viability
- Proven experience developing and working collaboratively with counterparts, other implementers, and international organizations and donors
- Relevant experience integrating capacity building, gender inclusiveness, and knowledge generation into work approaches
- Previous experience in similar fragile states, such as South Sudan, preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and versatility
- Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
