****BACKGROUND****

International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position of ****Primary Health Care Coordinator**** in South Sudan.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

****JOB SUMMARY****

Primary Health Care Coordinator/ Medical Doctor implements and oversees primary health care, mental health and reproductive health services in Minkaman IDP camp. Services include essential drug administration, infectious disease control, immunization, maternal and child health, nutrition, curative treatment for communicable/non communicable diseases and health education interventions.

****ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES****

  • Supervise and train staff and manage the day to day activities of a primary health Care clinic, mental health and reproductive health departments.
  • Provide clinical consultation, diagnosis and treatment for clients in liaison with medical team.
  • Manage and implement PHC services according to internationally accepted and Ministry of Health standards with a focus on controlling communicable diseases.
  • Collect, analyze and monitor PHC service data to adjust project objectives and to plan additional specialized responses (outbreak response, health campaigns, rational drug use, nutrition programs, etc).
  • Conduct regular visits through the camp and community to observe conditions, gather feedback from patients and partners and critically analyze the context.
  • Ensure regular and adequate drug and medical supplies in order to avoid stock outs in coordination with relevant medical and logistics personnel.
  • Collaborate with recognized health authorities, health agencies, donors and other stakeholders to utilize standardized reporting practices and information sharing.
  • Represent and actively participate in coordination meetings and other relevant meetings.

****QUALIFICATIONS****

“To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.”

  • Medical degree/M.D with at least 5 years of experience preferably in refugee and IDP camp setting. Master's in Public Health is a plus.
  • Experience in a managerial position relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and communicable diseases.
  • Familiar with SPHERE guidelines and indicators
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience with donor agencies like UNHCR, UNICEF, CHF and UNFPA, government officials, and other NGO's
  • Flexible, and able to cope with stress
  • Able to live and work in basic conditions in a high tension security environment
  • Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
  • Fluent in English language; Arabic is a plus
