South Sudan: Health Promotion Specialist

IMA World Health is seeking a Health Promotion Specialist to provide technical support and leadership to the second iteration of a multi-donor Health Pooled Fund (HPF) in the Republic of South Sudan. The 2-year, GBP 853-million fund is intended to ensure health service delivery and support achievement of national health sector development plan objectives across six of South Sudan's ten states. The Health Promotion Specialist will oversee provision of a comprehensive technical package pertaining to the appropriate area and will oversee capacity building of the CHDs, SMOH and MOH through trainings. The Health Promotional Specialist will work directly with communities, CHDs, and the IMA state health teams including community health officers and State Managers.

A key objective of this project is to transfer ownership and stewardship of health service delivery to the Government of South Sudan.

Duties

  • Facilitate collaboration and involvement of county authorities, county departments and other partners
  • Review and make recommendations on the use of functional community participation systems through the Boma Health Initiative (BHI) and also to include VHCs, TBAs, community leaders, outreaches and campaigns
  • Make recommendations on community mobilization approaches and tools that will lead to increased demand and utilization of healthcare services
  • Provide recommendations on community dialogue and accountability approaches and tools that will ensure better use of resources for healthcare delivery
  • Initiate and/or support the activities for social and behaviour change communication and advocacy for health promotion and prevention of disease
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as may be assigned

The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:

  • Advanced professional qualification in public health, or community health, or social science
  • 5 years experience in community health in developing countries, including South Sudan
  • 5 years experience in community participation and engagement in developing countries
  • Demonstrable health promotion skills
  • Ability to travel for extended periods within South Sudan and the region to support technical activities
  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability and flexibility to adjust schedules and priorities to meet project deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and manage shifting priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Experience in South Sudan is strongly preferred
