The purpose of this role is to contribute to the long term effectiveness

and sustainability of JAM South Sudan activities. To grow and strengthen JAM South Sudan contribution to the Humanitarian Sector and its financial sustainability. To develop excellent relationships with all Regional operations, partner organisations and donors to identify and effectively respond to opportunities, connecting the skills JAM has with the needs of affected people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead on identifying, securing and reporting on all new in-country institutional and other major funding relationships and contracts.
  2. Develop and manage systems to record, share and analyse funding and partnership opportunities, activities and experience
  3. To maximise opportunities for training contracts

In particular:

· Through research, networking and engagement with the humanitarian sector identify and pursue humanitarian funding opportunities in line with the organizational strategy in close collaboration with the Country Director/VP Programs and COO and their teams.

· Secure at least $600,000 for new activities each financial year.

· Take a lead in developing institutional capacity around donor compliance. Support and mentor staff preparing concept papers/proposals and in their report writing. Ensure a recorded pool of knowledge which is available for all relevant colleagues around donor requirements, funding streams, contacts and strategies

· To oversee and support regional teams to communicate JAM’s organisational and country strategies to donors and all other stakeholders effectively.

· With the COO, VP of Programs, and Country Director ensure that funding, relationships and partnership opportunities and activities are recorded and analysed in a unified and consistent way using effective and efficient management tools.

· Collaborate with the COO, VP Programs Director and Country Director to build partnerships with NGOs and other Humanitarian actors to enhance the impact and value of our work where and when necessary and represent JAM in project consortia where relevant.

· Take a lead in maintaining and further developing dashboards and other funding/financial tracking tools, in close collaboration with the VP of Programs.

· Keep up to date with trends and debates within the Humanitarian Sector and work with the VP of Programs in identifying sector needs and proposing JAM’s response.

· Support the development of good practice in communications across the region

PERSON SPECIFICATION

· At least 5 years experience working in the humanitarian sector in the field of the East African Region

· Track record of securing, successfully managing and reporting on significant grants from institutional donors

· Bring a network of contacts from across the Humanitarian Sector

· Able and comfortable in working at both strategic and operational level

· Proven experience of preparing and managing budgets

· Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.

· Understanding of the donor compliance needs for a variety of humanitarian donors

· Proven experience of preparing and managing narrative proposals and reports

· Excellent IT skills, specifically in MS Office and database management

· Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to influence across the organisation and externally

· Confidence and ability to represent JAM externally including public speaking as necessary

· An enterprising, creative, goal-orientated and can-do-attitude

· Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes to difficult/insecure locations for up to 45% of the time

· Fluency in spoken and written English
