South Sudan: CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER-(NATIONAL POSITION)

We are looking for a qualified Child Protection Officer to work with Lutheran World Federation (LWS) in Maban County, Upper Nile.

Who are we?

The LWF is an international humanitarian and development agency working in South Sudan since 2009. Currently, LWF is operating in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile States and strives to provide humanitarian (emergency/relief, rehabilitation and development) assistance to refugees/IDPs and other vulnerable communities to enable them meet their basic human rights and needs in line with its vision, mission and core values. LWF has been implementing education and child protection activities in refugee camps in Maban County since 2012. LWF/DWS is implementing partner to UNHCR.

Job Role: Under supervision of Senior Protection Officer, the Child Protection Officer will be responsible for case management for vulnerable children and referrals, guide the team to ensure appropriate and safe alternative care arrangements with special attention to unaccompanied and separated children, capacity building of community based child protection structures and facilitate activities in child friendly spaces, provision of psychosocial and material support to vulnerable children. In collaboration with Senior Child Protection Officer, build capacity of case workers and Child Protection Assistants and implement quality activities in timely manner.

Qualification and experience

The qualified candidate will have relevant degree in social work, social science, education, psychology or equivalent and 3 years’ experience in IDP/refugee programme.

· Demonstrate good understanding of child protection in emergencies

· Experience of working with child protection case management, Best Interest Assessment, Best Interest Determination and CPIMS

· Experience of working with vulnerable children such as unaccompanied and separated children and children with special needs

· Understanding and facilitating activities in child friendly spaces

· Understanding of international humanitarian standards, codes of conduct and child safeguarding

· Demonstrated effective communication, analytical and problem solving

Skills specific to the post

· Proven capacity to train, coach staff and provide supportive supervision on case management and referral of cases

· Proven effective management skills in leading a team in a cross cultural environment

· Ability to work under high pressure with a great level of personal organization

· Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions

· Excellent written, spoken English and Arabic language a plus

· Ability to work in emergency setting

· Excellent participatory monitoring and evaluation skills

· Strong communication and reporting skills
