Plan International is changing. We are responding to shifts in international development and humanitarian response to ensure we make a stand for all children’s rights, through a focus on girls and other disadvantaged children. As Plan International embarks on this ambitious and exciting process across our 70+ offices worldwide, we are introducing a number of new roles within the organisation.

The Role

Plan International has been working in South Sudan since 2006 and currently works with more than 20,000 children - mainly in Juba, Lainya and Yei counties in Central Equatoria - to bring lasting improvements in a country that has emerged from decades of civil war. Plan International emergency teams are on the ground working with thousands of children and families who have been forced to flee recent outbreaks of violence in South Sudan.

Based in the country office, in Juba, The Head of Programmes will provide strategic leadership to, and management of, the Programmes Department in the development and execution of the country’s strategic programmes.

The Programmes Department delivers high quality programmes with children and communities in accordance with Plan’s Child Centred Community Development (CCCD) approach and Plan’s Global Strategy and Programmes Framework. As Head of Programmes you will be accountable for the overall performance of the Programmes Department.

The Head of Programs directly oversees Program strategy and technical support, program effectiveness, knowledge management & learning and overall program delivery (both development and emergency programs).

Do you have what it takes?

In order to succeed in this challenging and varied role you will require proven experience in Disaster Risks Management issues with specific practical experience in Disaster Risks Reduction implementation with reputable humanitarian organisation(s).

High level representation skills, including to senior officials in government and Development Partners. Highly effective communicator that builds relationships in order to influence others. Demonstrated capacity to create and manage complex partnerships that contribute to organizational goals.

Demonstrated skills in project cycle management, with prior experience managing grant funded projects including knowledge of the requirements of donor compliance and financial management.

Excellent English skills both verbal and written

Knowledge of South Sudan context is preferred but not essential

Location: Based in Juba, with travel

Type of Role: 5 year fixed term contract

Reports to: Country Director, South Sudan

Salary: circa $55,000-$60,000 USD per annum plus benefits
