Job Title: Hygiene Promotion Coordinator

Programme Title: Cholera Response-Expanding access to community hygiene promotion activities in response to the Juba cholera outbreak

Work Base: MENTOR Juba, South Sudan

Responsible to: Field Coordinator / Country Director, South Sudan

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: 3 months with possibility of renewal

Staff reporting: WASH Prevention Manager; Team of 10 WASH technicians + support staff.

Context: Control of the current cholera outbreak in Juba, South Sudan is a top Health and WASH Clusters priority. In order to fully address the upsurge in cholera cases, to curb the increasing death toll, and ensure that the burden of disease is abated, further efforts are required at the community level. With the present case-load, existing health facilities are over-stretched, necessitating further concerted efforts at the community level. As identified by the WASH and Health clusters, there is an apparent need for upscaling efforts in relation to WASH community mobilisation. MENTORs response will focus on training 100 Community Hygiene Promoters to deliver key cholera prevention messages within the capital.

Overall Job Purpose: MENTOR seeks a WASH Coordinator with experience of working in community hygiene promotion activities. Strong training and leadership skills will be required. The right candidate will have experience applying theories and models of BCC, in the field of public health. This position requires the ability to train and manage national teams. The candidate for this position would be dynamic and can do individual. This is a rapid response project that will require the selected individual to hit the ground running.

Essential Functions:

· Coordinating all activities related to the project

· Collating and analysing all data

· Work collaboratively with other MENTOR team members to ensure necessary program planning, development, resource availability and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.

· Contribute to timely and appropriate reporting.

· Rapid recruitment, training, supervising and supporting the national WASH Manager and WASH Technicians in implementing the IEC/BCC activities within the targeted areas within Juba, to include: daily staff direction; task delegation; programme scheduling; training and development; evaluation and i reporting

· Rapid recruitment and training of 100 Community Hygiene Promoters

· Technical management, recruitment and training of the WASH team

· Technical oversight of programme activities

· Logistical organisation of programme activities

· Ensuring the efficient management of stock and assets related to the IEC/BCC campaigns

· Coordination with other actors relevant to the field, to include: participation in meetings; actively engaging with other INGOs/NGOs, Local Authorities, and UN bodies to maximise resources

· Collaborating with HQ Programme Management

· Drafting end of project report

Other

· Any other duties as may be assigned by the CD, HQ Programme Manager or the Director

· Potential transfer to a similar role in another MENTOR team/programme, by mutual consent.

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree

· Post graduate degree in Communications, Marketing, Behaviour Change Communication or Health Communication or WASH would be an asset

· A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in related fields in a competitive environment, with experience in a senior position providing technical leadership

· Equivalent combinations of experience and training will be considered

· Exceptional written and oral communications skills in English

· Practical, hands on approach

· Ability to build and maintain partnerships across government and NGOs

· Innovative and resourceful mindset to make solutions work in adverse conditions, with limited resources

· Ability to work under stressful conditions

· Strong sense of team spirit, diplomacy and tact

· Excellent training skills

· Flexibility and willingness to learn

· Good organizational skills

· Ability to meet deadlines

· Computer literate including Window programs – Excel, Word, Outlook, etc

· Strong management profile with experience in field conditions

Desirable Requirements are:

  • Knowledge of local area - experience working in South Sudan preferred
  • Previous work with Public Health interventions in fragile states

· Experience in IEC/BCC programming at the community level in emergency scenarios

· NGO experience of at least two years working with health organization

  • Previous experience in data collection, interpretation and reporting

· Experience working in rapid response scenarios
