HelpAge has been working in Sudan for over 20 years and has provided essential support and services to vulnerable older people and their dependants. HelpAge is committed to providing a community based approach to address the most pressing needs of older people and their dependents in West Darfur through the ongoing crisis. We seek to address the immediate needs of older people, while at the same time affecting some longer-term change. We are based in El Geneina, close to the Chadian border, where a high number of those displaced by the conflict are found. The Darfur Programme Manager will be responsible for the implementation, management and administration of HelpAge International's humanitarian programme in Darfur. They will take a leading role in the international agency community in Darfur in the protection of older people in the current crisis and research and propose new and appropriate areas of work for HAI in the affected area and manage their establishment. The successful candidate will have significant emergencies experience, including designing and monitoring emergency interventions in the African context. You will be a strong leader with good experience in staff management and development, particularly in insecure and politically sensitive environments. You will have a clear understanding of the emergencies environment and in ensuring accountability and safety of staff and programme. Experience of working in Sudan and knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage. The closing date for receipt of applications is midnight GMT on Sunday 2 December 2012.
