The role
The Food Security and Livelihoods Advisor is responsible for ensuring the quality of Save the Children’s FSL programmes in country, providing technical advice to ongoing programmes across the country, as well as having a key role in livelihoods strategy development, country strategy development and programme development, for our engagement in South Sudan.

The post-holder is also responsible for engaging on policy development and advocacy, particularly relevant in the context of a new country of South Sudan. National level coordination in FSL is also a key aspect of this post, as well as national and global learning on FSL

Qualifications and experience
Essential
• Advanced degree in a relevant discipline
• At least 3-5 years proven international experience in providing technical support to complex FSL programmes
• High-level communication and people skills.
• An articulate, good networker who is able represent the organisation at a senior level.
• Excellent understanding of household economies, preferably Household Economy Approach (HEA.)
• Ability to link micro-level impacts on children with macro trends at national and regional level.
• Strong analytic and planning skills
• Proven skills in leading, influencing, managing and coaching
• Experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies
• Basic grant management skills, including budgeting and reporting
• Previous experience in donor reporting
• Design, roll out and maintenance of monitoring & evaluation tools and framew orks
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to field sites and work independently
• Proven ability in working in insecure or hardship environments and to work under tight deadlines
• Commitment to the values and principles of Save the Children, and realising children’s rights

Desirable
• Previous experience in South Sudan
• Skills and experience in HEA, Cost of Diet (CoD) and/or Integrated Food Security Phased Classification.
• Knowledge of database management tools and data analysis tools
• Experience in promoting children’s participation in programme design and monitoring.
