Chief of Party, South Sudan

We are currently seeking a Chief of Party for an anticipated multi-year USAID-funded opportunity in South Sudan called the Markets for Agricultural Incomes and Competitiveness (MAGIC) project. The MAGIC program will contribute to USAID/South Sudan’s overall strategy for an “Increasingly stable South Sudan, demonstrating responsiveness to citizens’ needs.” MAGIC will strive for results in increased competitiveness of South Sudanese agricultural goods, improved livelihoods and increased household incomes. This will be achieved through interventions in several areas, including private sector-led agricultural market strengthening, agricultural productivity, capacity building, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) coordination and innovative grants and public-private partnerships. USAID/South Sudan focuses the vast majority of agriculture interventions in the “Greenbelt” – the fertile and relatively stable agro-ecological zone that spreads across the three Equatoria States in the southern part of the country.

Responsibilities: Technical leadership in one or more key areas of focus for the program, as listed above. Supervision of all international consultants and local project staff. Quality control and timeliness of all deliverables. Preparation or supervision of work plans, financial, logistical and other documents. Review of all financial and logistical information on a periodic basis. Recommendation and evaluation of proposed staff. Serve as principal liaison with USAID staff, institutions, and client country partners to exchange information and develop professional relationships. Making verbal or written presentations as requested by the COTR to varied audiences.

Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing large (at least $10 million), complex value chain or agri-business projects, with experience in production, agricultural economics, market intelligence, or related field. A minimum of 8 years’ experience as a COP, Project Director, or similar senior management position for projects with similar magnitude and complexity, preferably in South Sudan or similar environment. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to be collaborative across projects, flexible and creative. Strong communications and interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, NGOs, research institutions). Demonstrated knowledge and experience with USAID regulations and contract management. MS, MBA, or other post-graduate degree in a relevant technical field. Fluency in English required.
