South Sudan: Agricultural Land Use and Planning Expert, South Sudan

Tetra Tech ARD, a leading international development consulting firm based in Burlington, Vermont and Washington, D.C., is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified senior level candidates for an Agricultural Land Use and Planning Expert on a multi-year EU-funded land tenure and property rights program in South Sudan. The program’s overall goal is to enhance secure tenure of land, fisheries forests and other natural resources for smallholders, vulnerable people and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, and to achieve food security and contribute to the eradication of poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. This is a full time position, based in South Sudan.

Qualifications and skills:

*A Master’s degree or equivalent in Agronomy, Environmental Economy, Forestry, Regional Planning, or relevant fields;

*Thorough knowledge of agricultural land use systems;

*Experience leading initiatives making use of, or developing complex information technology tools;

*Excellent negotiation and communication skills and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional background.

*Strong communication and presentation skills both oral and written. The expert must be fluent in spoken and written English, and should have the ability to write analytical, clear and concise technical reports.

*Proven ability to organize and deliver trainings at different levels.

General professional experience:

*Proven capacity to conduct assessments and to provide inputs to governments strategies and policies.

*A minimum of 15 years of experience in developing countries

*Previous working experience in South Sudan, or in the region, is an advantage.

Specific professional experience:

*A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in land use planning, environmental planning or other relevant fields.

*Minimum 5 years' experience in participatory land and natural resources use planning

*In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of natural resource protection and agricultural land use planning; urban and regional planning, natural resource management, and conservation.

*Knowledge of the subject of GIS, and mapping systems.

*Experience in conflict mitigation strategies and risk analysis is an advantage.

*Familiar with at least one land use planning system in the region is an advantage.
