Malteser International, the worldwide relief agency of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid, works in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas for people in need, regardless of their religion, origin or political affiliation. Its mission is to provide emergency relief as well as to implement rehabilitation measures and to facilitate the link between emergency relief and sustainable development. Christian values and the humanitarian principles of impartiality and independence form the basis of its work in the following areas: Relief, Reconstruction & Rehabilitation; Health & Nutrition; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH); Livelihood & Social Programs and Disaster Risk Reduction.

In South Sudan, Malteser International is running basic health care programs, a sleeping sickness control programs and supporting people affected by leprosy. In Wau, in addition to the supporting two health training schools, Malteser International is starting a food security project for the strengthening of agricultural and marketing capacities of vulnerable communities.

To support our lately opened Program Office in Wau, South Sudan, Malteser International is looking for a Logistician

Responsibilities:

1. Procurement

  • Organize or perform procurement, orders and delivery of materials or goods and has to keep clear records, following the Malteser guidelines for procurement

2 . Store and Asset Management

  • Organize and manage the store, both physically and administratively
  • Responsible for reception of goods (including off loading trucks & vehicles)
  • Maintain and regularly update the Program Offices inventory list

3 . Travel/Transport Management

  • Facilitate the process of visa applications and other registration procedures with civil authorities
  • Management of the Offices vehicle fleet, including supervision of logbooks, vehicle registration and insurance; monthly fuel consumption reports, maintenance reports, etc.
  • Supervision of drivers, including checking that standard security guidelines are adhered to for vehicles, drivers and passengers (incl. regular radio communication HF, VHF)
  • Deal with government offices related to logistics (e.g. Customs, Ministry of Finance or other GoSS authorities, Public Security), especially he/she will be responsible for clearing goods and items for Malteser from customs or other official institutions
  • Form and teach personnel in relevant fields

4. Coordination

  • Support the Project Manager in the coordination tasks with authorities, UN/INGOs etc.
  • Organize and/or attend logistics meetings, becoming the focal point and representative for all logistics matters

5. Security

  • Support the Project Manager in all security issues in Wau location

6. IT

  • Supervise IT issues in Wau location
  • Supervise the maintenance of all IT equipment
  • Regular update and back-up of crucial documentation

7. Other

  • Any other tasks reasonably related to the logistics

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accountancy or equivalent
  • Three-year extensive working experience in purchasing, transport, warehousing and supply chain management
  • At least two-year proven experience as a manager
  • Good team management skills/ Capacity of managing personnel, and help them develop their respective skills
  • Good communication and translation skills, e.g. capacity of dealing with government officials, traders/merchants and external visitors to the office
  • Good analytical and reporting skills
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc)
  • Capacity to work independently and in an organized way
  • Sense of setting priorities
  • Practical knowledge of mechanics and electricity
  • Adaptability to various situations and priority changes
  • Capacity to deal with stress and to respect deadlines
  • Positive, problem-solving attitude
  • Fluent in English and in local languages
  • Driving of cars and motorcycles (proven by driving license)
  • Willingness to travel in the field if required
  • High level of flexibility

Conditions:

  • Start Date: 17.11.2014
  • Duty Station: Wau, South Sudan
  • Local employment contract, based in Wau
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience (plus further staff benefits)
