Organizational Context:

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organization, with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS has a priority to work wherever the needs of displaced people are urgent and unattended by others, and offers a human service to refugees and the communities through a wide range of rehabilitation and relief activities, many of which center around formal and informal education needs.

Position Description

JRS is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Accountant/ Office Assistant in JRS. Primary responsible for day to day management of the accounts and other financial procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management Control

  • Maintain financial records: payments and post day-to-day financial transactions in the access database.
  • Maintain an up to date asset register for the project.
  • Process monthly payroll for the staff in liaison with the Finance and Admin Manager (FAM)
  • Ensure that there is a constant follow up on overdue accountability from heads of departments
  • Ensure that cash, cash equivalent and financial records are safeguarded and utilized in the intended manner
  • Oversee the management of the office petty cash
  • Follows regular day to day work with the banking institutions.
  • Ensure any procurement of materials in support of JRS’ programmes follows the procurement policies/procedures
  • Ensure that the correct stores record system for receipts, storage and issuance of supplies is in place and up to date
  • Evaluate all the contracts (for supplies, construction, etc) and advise the FAM accordingly before implementation of the said activities.
  • Maintain project files as required (both in hard and soft copies), administrative instruction and other related documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essentials:

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in related field
  • Experience of work in multicultural teams in refugee/IPD settings
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Plans work, and sets goals within the area of responsibility
  • Strong administrative writing skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS word, Excel/Office.
  • Excellent knowledge of office/secretarial work (agenda, minutes of meetings, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and very good written English.
  • Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines in hardship and stressful situations and meet deadlines
  • Patience, perseverance and ability to work in stressful environment and a simple lifestyle
  • Proactive and self-motivated.

Desirable

  • Good oral and written Arabic
  • Previous experience with JRS
  • Understanding of the role of faith-based institutions in humanitarian work and ensuring its mission and values are envisioned in all the work
